- Born and raised in South Africa - he represented the Proteas at U15 and 19 level - but his British passport allowed him to move to England and join Warwickshire as a non-overseas player.
- Decided to throw his hat into the ring with England, and was selected for a brief, ill-fated start to his international career in the 2007 T20s against West Indies.
- Went back to his county where sheer weight of runs put him back into the England picture.
