- After a difficult debut against South Africa in 1997/98, he developed into world-class stroke-maker and one of the pillars of the Pakistani middle order.
- In both 2002 and 2003 he scored more runs than anyone else in one-day internationals.
- Previously known as Yousuf Youhana, he publicly converted to Islam in late 2005.
- In 2006 he scored 1788 runs in 11 Tests, breaking Sir Viv Richards' 30-year-old record for most runs in a calendar year.
- Banned indefinitely by the PCB in 2010 after he was accused of infighting during Pakistan's wretched tour of Australia, and he subsequently decided to retire.
