- Test debut v Australia at Bangalore - March 1998.

- ODI debut v New Zealand at Sharjah - April 1998

- Harbhajan Singh is almost as famous for controversies as he is for his spin bowling.

- One of his nicknames is The Turbanator, based on his bowling skill and, as a Sikh, he wears a black turban when he plays.

- He had to remodel his bowling action after he was reported for chucking in November 1998.

- Became a household name in India in 2001 after taking 32 wickets against Australia, which included a hat-trick, the first Indian to do so in Test cricket.

- Although he has since failed to reach standards he set in 2001, he is still considered India's No 1 spin bowler following the retirement of Anil Kumble.

- He was a member of India's 2007 World Twenty20 championship winning team.

- In recent years he has become synonymous with controversies. During the 2008 tour of Australia, he was banned after allegedly calling Andrew Symonds a "monkey". His ban was later lifted.

- Later in the year he was suspended for 11 Indian Premier League matches after he slapped India team-mate Sreesanth.

- Just as whispers of Harbhajan reaching the end of his career started to appear, he hit back with 5 for 59 against South Africa at his favourite Eden Gardens to bowl India to a dramatic innings victory with just nine balls left in the match.
