- Six-foot-seven fast bowler earmarked as an England prospect since making his Middlesex debut as a 16-year-old in 2005.
- Got a late call-up for the 2009/10 tour of Bangladesh after injuries to Graham Onions and Ryan Sidebottom.
- Leapfrogged existing squad members to make his Test debut, and impressed despite unhelpful conditions.
