O'Brien Shines For IrishWednesday 30th July 2008Ireland eased to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Holland in the one-day international in Dublin.
The hosts bowled out their European Championship Division One rivals for 142, Kevin O'Brien the pick of the attack with 3-30.
Peter Connell and Andre Botha chipped in with two wickets apiece as the Dutch, who were without all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate due to his county commitments, were bowled out in 47.1 overs.
The damage was done in the opening overs when they slumped to 46-5, forcing Eric Szwarczynski, who top-scored with 33 from 58 balls, to rebuild.
In the end his efforts were in vain as Ireland recovered from a brief wobble at 25-2 to reach their target of 143 with a massive 21 overs to spare.
Northamptonshire wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien finished unbeaten on 58, his 80-ball knock including eight fours.
Botha followed up his efforts with the ball by making 38 before Andrew White came in to see the hosts home with an undefeated 22. ©2006 - 365 Media Group Any reproduction, publication or redistribution of this material without the written agreement of 365 Media Group is strictly forbidden. |
