Rain prevents play at the Gabba
After an opening day of success for South Africa, day two of the first Test against Australia was a no-go as the heavens above Brisbane pelted the Gabba with unyielding rain.
After an opening day of success for South Africa, day two of the first Test against Australia was a no-go as the heavens above Brisbane pelted the Gabba with unyielding rain.
There wasn't even a thought of play all day, despite forecasts, which were far from correct, saying there would be a block of clarity. The covers stayed put and the players went back to their hotels at around lunchtime.
As a result, play will begin 30 minutes early for the rest of the Test, and finish 30 minutes later, thus tacking on an hour onto each day.
As it stands, the visitors are on 255 for two, ith Jacques Kallis on 84 not out and Hashim Amla unbeaten on 90.
They are essentially three down though, as JP Duminy has been ruled out of the match, and the rest of the season, after rupturing his left Achilles during warm-down drills at the close of day one.
