England's women scraped a two-wicket win from the last ball of the match in Mumbai to go 1-0 up on India in their Twenty20 series.

England, who lost the one-day international series 3-2 against their hosts, bowled and fielded well today to restrict India to 125 for five.

Captain Charlotte Edwards and Jenny Gunn then kept England's chase on course, the latter putting on 40 with Danielle Hazell for the highest stand of the match.

But soon after Gunn was caught at midwicket in the penultimate over, England found themselves on 122 for eight and still needing four runs from the last three balls.

A single off the last ball would have left scores level, meaning a 'super over' would be required to settle the contest.

But Nicky Shaw kept her cool, and managed two runs to see her team home.

England will play the second match of the series against India back at the same venue on Saturday.
