Jack Manuel and David Payne were the stars of the show as England Under-19 hit back in their series against Sri Lanka with a rain-affected 51-run victory.
Payne's 63 helped the England youngsters to a respectable score of 184 all out in 48.2 overs in their fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka Under-19, before the visitors were bowled out for 125 chasing a revised target of 177 in 41 overs.
Captain Paul Best also played a crucial part in the victory, hitting an unbeaten 28 after coming in at number eight, after Lahiru Jayaratne (3 for 22) had given Sri Lanka the upper hand.
Matt Dunn and Payne (4 for 40) bowled well at the top of the order and were instrumental in reducing the touring side from 21 for 0 to 28 for 4, and by the time the rain arrived Sri Lanka had lost half of their line-up.
Facing a stiffer challenge when play resumed, and they were all out in the 35th over with Dunn and Payne sharing seven wickets between them.
The result meant that the series was shared two-all, with one game having been abandoned due to rain.
"It was great to win the final match and level the one day series," said Best afterwards. "The result was a fair reflection of the strength of the two teams and it was fantastic for England players ending their U19s career to finish on a high."
