Shakib Al Hasan's best bowling performance in the LV= County Championship cleared Worcestershire's path to a fifth win of the season after a dismal performance by Surrey at New Road.
The former Bangladesh captain finished with six for 42 as the visitors embarked on a kamikaze rush to defeat by 238 runs after losing their last six wickets in 48 minutes.
Set 369 for victory, they were already on a slippery slope when resuming at 66 for four and in less than an hour they were all out for 130 despite a stand of 51 by overnight pair Rory Hamilton-Brown and Steven Davies.
At one point they hit six fours and two sixes off 13 balls and in all they faced only 6.2 overs before both went for big shots and got themselves out in the space of three deliveries from Shakib.
The left-arm spinner, who took five for 23 in Worcestershire's last victory against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham, had Davies caught at mid-off for 19 and Hamilton-Brown well taken by James Cameron at deep extra cover for 34.
Paceman Matt Mason, having borne the brunt of the early assault, was amply compensated when removing Matthew Spriegel, Gareth Batty and Stewart Walters in the space of seven balls.
Batty, a former Worcestershire player who rejoined Surrey in the winter, reacted to comments from the home fans after he had driven a simple catch to Alexei Kervezee at point.
After taking his pads off, he reappeared almost straight away and had a conversation with a spectator who was said to have shouted: "You got what you deserved."
It did not seem to be a particularly heated exchange and it was quickly over when Ian Salisbury, from Surrey's coaching staff, shepherded Batty back to the changing room.
Of more concern to Surrey should be the way they went about the last day. Going down with guns blazing is one thing but capitulating as they did was not a good sign.
For Worcestershire it was an unexpectedly comfortable recovery from the events of last week when Vikram Solanki resigned as captain after a 241-run defeat by Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay.
A winning start for acting skipper Daryl Mitchell has even opened up the possibility of a late run into contention for promotion.
