Mgijima and bowlers help Cobras stun Titans
Dane Paterson led a stellar bowling display by the Cape Cobras as they inflicted a first loss of the season on the Titans winning by four wickets and with a bonus point in Centurion on Friday.
The Proteas fast bowler claimed figures of three for 38 in 10 overs to help restrict the reigning champions to 212 for nine, before Aviwe Mgijima made 54 (58 balls, 8 fours) as the visitors cruised to victory with 11.4 overs to spare.
It was a fine result for the Cape side, who had lost one and won one of their previous two games in the 2017/18 campaign as they stopped the Titans from claiming a third straight victory.
The home side had lost the toss at the start and they were in problems from the outset after being put in to bat at SuperSport Park.
Heino Kuhn (21) had to retire hurt with the score on 31 for none and they then started losing wickets at regular intervals after the initial breakthrough by Paterson.
Wayne Parnell (2/38), Mthiwekhaya Nabe (2/42) and George Linde (2/31) all picked up two wickets apiece to reduce the Titans to 185 for nine, before Lungi Ngidi (17 not out) helped get them beyond 200.
However, the Cobras were in determined mood, and after openers Richard Levi and Pieter Malan struck 23 and 22 respectively, Mgijima continued to build on the good work, before falling with the score on 131.
Captain JP Duminy then made 41 to ensure his side cruised past their target in 38.2 overs.
