Sunfoil Series wrap: Dolphins salvage a draw

Normal service was resumed in the two remaining Sunfoil Series games of round five with two draws being recorded following the Titans win over the Lions on Wednesday.

The Dolphins top order found form and were comfortably able to steer their team to safety against the Cobras in Oudtshoorn.

Opener Morne van Wyk (106) and number three Vaughan van Jaarsveld (100) did their duty as senior players and moved the Dolphins clear of danger sharing a 167 run partnership.

Both fell to Cobras skipper Dane Piedt (2/76) after Vernon Philander had nipped out Senuran Muthusamy on Wednesday afternoon but Dane Vilas followed up a first innings century against his former franchise with an unbeaten 64.

The Dolphins would end the day on 360/4 leading by 258 runs after the Cobras established a 102 run first innings lead.

Cody Chetty (46*) was with the former Proteas keeper when the captains agreed to call off the contest.

In Kimberley the contest between the Knights and the Warriors also ended in a stalemate with the match heavily effected by rain.

Grant Mokoena scored his first first class century of the season while Keegan Petersen went passed three figures for the second time in the Sunfoil series campaign on a good wicket at the Diamond Oval.

Sisanda Magala (2/64) was the pick of the Warriors bowlers on a day that always had draw written all over it, spinner Simon Harmer also bagged two wickets putting in a shift of 32 overs in the Knights first innings effort of 391/5 with neither side able to bat a second time.

The Warriors had posted 362 all out in their first effort powered by a big Colin Ackermann ton.

The results leave the Titans top of the table as the only team to  claim a victory so far.
