Donald backs Morkel, Parnell

Bowling coach Allan Donald is confident seamers Morne Morkel and Wayne Parnell will recover from relatively poor World Twenty20 campaigns.

Bowling coach Allan Donald is confident seamers Morne Morkel and Wayne Parnell will recover from relatively poor World Twenty20 campaigns.

Morkel proved entirely expensive during a crucial win over New Zealand and was removed from the XI for the remainder of the campaign. Parnell, later, delivered a costly 17-run over in the Proteas' semi-final loss to India.

"He was very disappointed after being dropped. But Morne is a proud individual and he will bounce back. Ironically, the three yorkers he bowled at Ross Taylor which beat the bat in the penultimate over, were pivotal to us winning the match against New Zealand," said Donald.

"We always talk in training about a clear mind, about mental commitment and about the one percenters. It is those three yorkers per over that you bowl that make the difference. Former players who have seen us in training, have been very impressed about our work ethic.

"It was not a case of the quality of our training that lacked. The problem lay in the execution and gameplans. Sometimes a batsman can upset your game plans and that is what I think happened to Parnell."

Sri Lanka won the WT20 after beating the Indians by six wickets in the final on the back of the veteran Kumar Sangakkara's quickfire half-century.
