Sri Lanka Cricket have enlisted the services of Australian human movement specialist Daryl Foster in a bid to have spin bowler Sachithra Senanayake return to international cricket.

Former first-class cricketer and coach Foster was involved in the testing of Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan's suspect bowling action in 1995 and 1999 – and in 2001 oversaw similar analysis for Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar.

Bio-mechanical tests conducted in Cardiff, Wales, deemed Senanayake's technique beyond the permitted 15-degree flex limit across all four of the deliveries assessed earlier this month.

He had been reported during the fourth ODI against England at Lord's in London on 31 May. On-field officials Marais Erasmus and Ian Gould, television umpire Chris Gaffaney and match referee Jeff Crowe informed the International Cricket Council of the probable transgression.

"The Standard ICC Illegal Action Testing Protocol was used to assess the degree of elbow extension from the point of upper arm horizontal to ball release within the bowling action," read a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket.

"15-degree elbow extension threshold was exceeded in the four deliveries considered to be suspect in the fourth ODI played at Lords. The report concludes that Sachithra bowled with an illegal bowling action and consequently he is banned from bowling in international cricket, effective immediately."
