Fast bowler Shane Bond looks set to miss out on a contract with Canterbury because of his Indian Cricket League commitments.

The former New Zealand bowler was hoping to claim the last of Canterbury's 12 full-time contracts but with an Indian Cricket League (ICL) tournament scheduled for October to November and others possibly later in the New Zealand season, Bond would not fulfil the criteria of being available for the full season, which runs from October to mid-April.

"The reality is that Shane Bond would not be able to be the 12th contracted player if he can't be available for the whole season," Canterbury Cricket Association chief executive Lee Germon said.

"My last discussions with Shane were around the fact that he had yet to confirm the second date for the ICL - he had the first date which I think was in October - but until we're absolutely clear upon Shane's availability we just don't know."

After signing for the unsanctioned ICL last year, Bond lost his New Zealand Cricket contract but was able to play for Canterbury on a match-by-match deal, an option that remains open to him again this year.

Germon refused to say who would be getting the final Canterbury contract but said the cut-off date for confirming their 12 players

was August 15.
