Will Smith was unbeaten on 144 and Dale Benkenstein 61, the pair having put on 184, in Durham's 280 for three.
The first day of Kent's clash with Surrey at Canterbury was washed out, as was the third day of the Second Division promotion clash between Worcestershire and Warwickshire at New Road.
Worcestershire, who have signed Sri Lankan Dilhara Fernando for the rest of the season, remained on 45 for one in their second innings, 133 ahead.
Daniel Redfern was 69no as Derbyshire moved to 225 for five in reply to Glamorgan's 348 at the County Ground. West Indian Wavell Hinds weighed in with 54.

Former England seamer Lewis was the major thorn in the Middlesex side, claiming five for 64.
