Essex captain Mark Pettini has signed a two-year contract extension with the county, keeping him at Chelmsford until 2011.

The 25-year-old batsman, who led the side to the Pro40 Division Two title and the Friends Provident Trophy in his first full season in charge, was delighted to commit his future to the team.

"I'm very pleased to finally put pen to paper on a new contract," he said.

"I've been trying to sort this out most of the season but it was a busy summer so I'm delighted to have now secured my future with Essex.

"This contract puts a cap on a successful and very enjoyable year."
