Vikram Solanki reckons fine displays from Owais Shah and Andrew Flintoff offer England hope of a revival in the final three games of the seven-match series against India in Bangalore.
India have already taken an unassailable 4-0 lead in the series but former England one-day-international Solanki told Sky Sports that the duo give reasons for some optimism for England
He said: "I don't think anyone will argue that India deserved to be the winners of the series but there was a really good effort by England.
"There was an exceptional partnership between Shah and Flintoff and it highlighted the lack of partnerships we've seen in previous games.
"They got this one together and that meant they could launch an assault. Had they managed to get hold of Zaheer Khan which is not an easy thing, they might have been able to make use of the latter part of the overs."
Solanki said that Shah and Flintoff had India worried with Shah hitting three huge sixes to add to one struck by Flintoff, which hit the roof of the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
He continued: "The two of then together meant it was the first time we saw India rattled a little bit and it was the first time that England put them under pressure in the series.
"Shah showed some deft touches and he hit some great shots. One nearly cleared the entire stadium and Flintoff played very well and he is such a big part of their lineup and we need him fired up for the rest of the series."
England, he added, needed to perform well under pressure in the final games.
"I think there were some exceptional knocks from both sides but the difference really has been that Zaheer Khan has managed to bowl in pressure situations and those are the moments that turn games.
"England did well considering the start they got off to but they didn't exactly race out of the blocks.
He said that England left themselves too much to do in the match and he said that there need not be wholesale changes for the final games.
He said: "They need to address the series really. To suddenly start changing the side again might mean too many changes.
"They need to make sure they don't start just re-jgging everything just for the sake of it. If they feel that there are some aspects of the team that need addressing then I am sure they will do it if it needs to be done."
