Indian Premier League strugglers Deccan Chargers have been dealt a blow after their captain VVS Laxman ruled himself out of the remainder of the tournament with a hand injury.

The veteran batsman has missed the last three matches after picking up a hairline fracture just below his right wrist against the Bangalore Royal Challengers on May 3 and will be sidelined for a fortnight.

"I was injured attempting a pull shot," Laxman told the Hindu. "Since then I've not been able to hold the bat.

"After a thorough check up, I've been advised to go for an MRI scan and I won't be able to play for the next 15 days."

The Indian is disappointed to be unable to help his struggling side turn their season around.

Having suffered seven defeats from nine games, the Hyderabad-based outfit will attempt to salvage some pride against the Delhi Daredevils on Thursday, under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist.

"It's sad that I had to miss some of the matches," Laxman added.

"It is all the more disappointing since the injury came when I was getting into the groove."
