Murali Kartik and Shaun Udal took four late wickets to help Middlesex wrest the initiative away from Glamorgan going into the final day of their rain-affected LV County Championship Division Two match at Colwyn Bay.

Glamorgan ended the third day on 110 for five in their second innings and an overall lead of 130 in response to Middlesex's 242 all out.

Kartik, who found some turn and bounce, and then Udal helped haul back Glamorgan from a solid position of 89 for one with four wickets falling for 21 runs.

Armed with a 20-run first-innings lead, Gareth Rees and Richard Grant rode their luck against an accurate new-ball burst by both Alan Richardson and Tim Murtagh.

But Glamorgan did suffer a setback when Rees reverse-swept Kartik straight to cover point to leave his side 62 for one, although Grant completed a 82-ball half century.

Grant lost his captain David Hemp, who was caught behind chasing a wide Danny Evans delivery, before he himself edged Kartik behind.

Glamorgan suffered more worrying times when their first-innings centurion Jamie Dalrymple went for a duck, edging Kartik to slip.

It forced Glamorgan to send out night watchman Dean Cosker, who edged Udal to the wicketkeeper from the last ball of the day.

After 92 overs were lost on the opening two days because of rain, Middlesex began the third day on 58 for two, 204 in arrears.

And they were further reduced to 83 for five thanks to a fine morning spell from Adam Shantry.

The left-armer produced a burst of three for two in 16 balls. A good line brought two wickets in as many overs as he had Billy Godleman caught at second slip followed by Eoin Morgan snaffled by wicket-keeper Mark Wallace.

A good morning was completed by Shanty when Dawid Malan drove loosely to gully.

But just as Glamorgan seemed on top, Udal and Scott changed the complexion of the match either side of lunch adding 104 in 37 overs.

Just as Middlesex looked as if they were going to rip the initiative away from Glamorgan they lost another three quick wickets to the home spinners.

First Scott was bowled comprehensively by Robert Croft before Cosker ripped out Murtagh, victim of a sharp catch at short leg by Gareth Rees, and Udal, who was caught on the square-leg boundary attempting to add to his five sixes. Udal was dismissed for 71 from 134 balls.

With his side 201 for eight, Kartik did a good job in trying to guide the tail but lost Richardson, bowled by Cosker, and Danny Evans who fell to the second new ball.
