Ram Slam T20 to feature Windies big guns
South Africa’s domestic T20 competition, the Ram Slam T20 Challenge, will begin at the Wanderers Stadium on Sunday with a strong Caribbean Calypso flavour to it, given the glut of West Indies signatures.
Big Names like Chris Gayle (Lions), Kieron Pollard (Cobras) and Darren Sammy (Titans) have all put pen to paper, while Dwayne Bravo will join up with the Dolphins after the first fixture.
Tournament Director, and former Proteas skipper, Graeme Smith said: “I am delighted to announce that our Franchises have recruited some of the world’s best T20 players.
“In my discussions with all the super stars it has been satisfying to note their eagerness to play in the Ram Slam as they regard South Africa as one of the best cricket Leagues in the world.”
Unfortunately Kumar Sangakkara was a late withdrawal from participating after Sri Lanka had agreed to tour India during November. Otherwise, England wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter will play for the Warriors.
CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, expressed his delight at the quality of the overseas signings: “We are determined to raise the standard and profile of our domestic cricket and there is no doubt that these top class international players will entertain our fans over the next six weeks.
“With our Proteas stars coming into the competition during the latter stages when they return from Australia the Ram Slam will be a competition to follow keenly.”
The Cape Cobras, at 10/3, are a particularly good bet to win the title.
