England were beaten by New Zealand in the second NatWest women's one-day international at Taunton as the White Ferns levelled the three-match series at 1-1.

Claire Taylor made 66 and Lydia Greenway, returning from an illness which ruled her out of Saturday's clash at the same venue, added 40 but despite the pair's partnership of 79, England could reach only 208 for nine as Suzie Bates took three for 27 and Erin Bermingham two for 41.

Bates added an unbeaten 75 as the tourists chased down the target with 2.1 overs to spare, despite Laura Marsh's three for 34.

England captain Charlotte Edwards reflected: "We were 20 or 30 runs short with the bat, despite Claire Taylor and Lydia Greenway's good performance. We bowled well, but missed too many run-outs, which cost us in the end."

The third and final match of the series takes place at Derby's County Ground on Thursday.
