Ben Stokes doubts there will ever be a better game of cricket than England’s super over victory in the World Cup final against New Zealand.
A super over was required to decide a winner after the match ended in a tie with Stokes and Buttler hitting an impressive 15 from the bowling of Trent Boult.
The Black Caps also struck 15 from their final over but England were crowned world champions as they hit the most boundaries throughout the final.
“All that hard work over those four years got this team to where we are today – this is what we aspire to be and we managed to come here and do it,” said Stokes.
“It’s almost written in the stars when stuff like that happens. Moments like that are what you live for as a professional cricketer.
“I don’t think there will be a better game in cricket history.
“We are champions of the world and it is an amazing feeling. I’m pretty done, to be honest!”
Woakes enjoyed Archer v Smith just as much as the rest of us.
The marquee might read England v Australia, but we all know it’s Steve Smith v Jofra Archer
Thankfully, Smith appears to have suffered no lasting damage.
Olly Stone has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a partial lower back stress fracture.
It’ll take a superb spell of bowling or a shambolic batting collapse for either side to win from here.

“I need more time to think, that’s the honest answer. It’s a big decision, it’s a big commitment.”
