David Warner on the list but not at the top – who scored the most runs in BBL14?

Hobart Hurricanes’ Mitch Owen smashed the joint fasted century in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL) as they beat the Sydney Thunder in the final.
Scoring 100 of just 39 deliveries, Owen helped his side win their maiden title in BBL14 in front of a packed Ninja Stadium in Hobart, Tasmania.
It was a fitting finale to BBL14, a tournament that saw piles of runs and excitement across the Australian summer.
The Thunder, led by David Warner, avenged their last-place finish in the 2023/24 edition of the competition by making the grand final but could do nothing about Owen’s destruction.
Here are the 7 players who dominated the scoring in BBL14…
7. Sam Billings – 271 runs
The Englishman had a near faultless BBL14 for the Sydney Thunder, helping them to the grand final with some crucial innings in the middle order as well as taking his chances while wicketkeeping.
He played all 12 matches in the competition, contributing regular runs and often using his game knowledge to steady the ship for the Thunder.
6. Matt Renshaw – 280 runs
Renshaw contributed important runs for the Brisbane Heat at an impressive strike rate of 169.69 in a tournament where his side struggled away from their home, the Gabba.
His ability to adapt to the game situation and change gears accordingly made him one of their more dependable players this season.

5. Marcus Stoinis – 311 runs
The ever-reliable captain of the Melbourne Stars again showed his capabilities and why he is still one of the game’s most elite short-format all-rounders.
He seemed to score runs when they were most needed and was instrumental in turning their slow start to BBL14 into a playoff berth at the end of the season.
4. Glenn Maxwell – 325 runs
Maxwell has been a timeless hero for the Stars with his 360 batting and ability to smash sixes at will, regularly lighting up the MCG.
The all-rounder scored at an average of 54.16, clubbing a huge 27 maximums on the way as he too played a part in their BBL14 revival. Perhaps we will see him star for Australia again.
3. Cooper Connolly – 351 runs
The 21-year-old had a season to remember for the Perth Scorchers, averaging a touch over 50 and playing every game for the Western Australian side.
Despite his side finishing just outside the coveted play-off places, his regular contributions highlighted by three not-out scores were almighty in the Scorchers’ push.
2. David Warner – 405 runs
The BBL veteran had an immaculate BBL14 as he turned around the Thunder’s fortunes with his consistent batting and perfect fielding placements throughout.
He featured in every single match as he led his side to the final with three 50+ scores. The Aussies will miss seeing him playing against England in the future.
1. Mitch Owen – 452 runs
Owen was in a league of his own with the bat in BBL14 scoring two centuries including his record-equalling effort in the final to bring it home for the first time for the Hobart Hurricanes.
He smashed a colossal 35 fours and 36 sixes at the top of the order with a strike rate of over 200 in his record-breaking season. Owen might feature against big countries such as South Africa down the line.
