Jason Behrendorff headed to the SA20 in South Africa after playing in the BBL in Australia.

The Hobart Hurricanes have won BBL14 thanks to a record-equalling century from Mitch Owen in the grand final.

Victory at the Ninja Stadium over the Sydney Thunder rounded off a tightly fought Big Bash competition between bat and ball.

While destructive stroke-making was evident in a format that has long favoured the batters, especially since the introduction of the power surge, some standout bowlers were in the tournament.

The Australian league has been monumental in the progression of white-ball bowlers, with variations and creativity making the competition box office-worthy.

The volume of franchise T20 tournaments around the world is growing year on year and good performances in the BBL will likely increase player’s stock around the world.

7. Ben Dwarshuis – 14 wickets

The left-arm seamer yet again proved his immense worth for the Sydney Sixers with his ability to swing the new ball and execute yorkers for his side.

He claimed 14 wickets at an average of 25.50 as he featured in every single match as the Sixers reached the playoffs.

6. Lloyd Pope – 15 wickets

Despite a slow start to BBL14, Pope slowly showed why the Adelaide Strikers had put such trust in him as his leg-spinning deliveries claimed 15 wickets.

He was valuable to his side and played all 10 matches while breaking up crucial partnerships in the middle overs and being effective during the power surge.

5. Lance Morris – 15 wickets

Known as ‘The Wild Thing’, Lance Morris helped the Perth Scorchers with his express pace with the new ball that could rattle opening batters.

He averaged an impressive 16.86 with the ball in eight BBL matches.

4. Mark Steketee – 15 wickets

The bowling of Steketee was instrumental in the Melbourne Star’s incredible turnaround where they managed to clinch a playoff berth following a very shaky start.

But his numbers over just six BBL games were staggering as he claimed his 15 wickets at an average of 9.40 with tournament-best figures of 5/17.

3. Riley Meredith – 16 wickets

An important cog of the title-winning engine, Meredith’s rapid bowling claimed 16 victims as his Hurricanes side won the maiden BBL.

While he missed two of his side’s matches, Meredith still managed to average 20.25 throughout the tournament. He could play international cricket against England in the future.

2. Tom Rogers – 16 wickets

A BBL specialist and an important member of the Star’s lineup, Rogers ripped through batting attacks with his dependable line and length.

He averaged just shy of 20 and bowled 36 overs throughout BBL14.

1. Jason Behrendorff – 17 wickets

The left-arm swing bowler had everything for the Perth Scorchers whether it was movement with the new ball in the powerplay or being economic during the pivotal death overs.

The former Australia international took his 17 wickets at 17.41 and incredibly, bowled three maiden overs in the tournament. He is now playing franchise cricket in South Africa.
