Bangladesh maintain unbeaten streak in tri-series


Bangladesh registered their third consecutive victory in the ODI tri-series when they convincingly beat Zimbabwe by 91 runs in Mirpur on Tuesday.

The home batted first after winning the toss and posted a total of 216/9 ion their 50 overs on a slow pitch that was difficult for batting.

Opener Tamim Iqbal (76) and Shakib Al-Hasan (51) shared in a stand of 106 for the second wicket but their was no other major contributor for the hosts as they collapsed during the middle overs.

Zimbabwe captain and leg-spinner Graeme Cremer initiated the meltdown with figures of 4-32 in 10 overs while fellow tweaker Sikandar Raza 1-39 and seamer Kyle Jarvis 3-42 in nine overs.

The African side were always going to find it difficult and that’s exactly what transpired as they slipped to 68/5.

Only Raza, with 39, showed resistance but he alone could not prevent the big defeat with Shakib starring also starring with the ball as took 3-34 while Mashrafe Mortaza, Sunzamul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets each.

Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka in the last league game on Thursday with the Sri Lankans needing a win to play in Saturday’s final.
