England allrounder Ben Stokes will miss the one-off ODI against Scotland and the early part of the five-match series Australia due to a hamstring tear.
Stokes pulled out of England’s team before the second Test against Pakistan, which started on Friday, after injuring his hamstring during training.
Scans have now confirmed a tear in Stokes’ left hamstring and he is set to miss the ODI against neighbours Scotland on 10 June and the early part of the Australia series at home that is scheduled to start on 13 June.
An ECB spokesperson said: “(Stokes) will be unavailable for the first part of the five-match ODI series against Australia as he recovers from a left hamstring tear.
“Stokes will be assessed later this week. He will continue his rehabilitation programme and will return to his county side Durham on Monday.”
England have called up batsman Dawid Malan as cover for Stokes for the Scotland game while Sam Billings has been drafted in for the Australia series.
