Steyn looking to secure county deal to prove fitness

South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn is looking to secure a deal with English county Hampshire in a bid to prove his fitness for the Proteas tour to Sri Lanka in July.
The 34-year-old Steyn has not played any cricket since he injured his heel in the first Test against India that was played at Newlands in early January.
South Africa’s next international assignment will only be in July when they tour Sri Lanka so Steyn is looking for some in the middle to prove his fitness.
When speaking to Supersport on Sunday, Steyn said he will skip this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and will try and play some red-ball cricket in England.
Steyn said: “The Proteas don’t play for quite a while.
“I’m going to take another month off. I’m not going to the IPL. I’m looking to go over to Hampshire in June to play a little bit of cricket, then Sri Lanka in July.”
Steyn was named on Cricket South Africa’s list of new national contracts last month and is only three wickets away from becoming the Proteas’ leading wicket-taker in Test cricket.
