WATCH: Jofra Archer takes six-fer on second XI comeback

Jofra Archer Sussex second XI PA

Jofra Archer took 6/27 on his red-ball comeback as his performance for Sussex second XI against Gloucestershire twos went pretty much exactly as you’d expect it to.

A succession of poor second XI sods looked a touch reluctant to get forward as Archer nicked them off and detonated their stumps.

Our favourite is the one who was caught at second slip off the stump.

While seconds cricket is not the ideal preparation for Test cricket and Archer’s figures are more or less irrelevant, it’s got to be some sort of encouragement that he’s got through 12 clearly quite lively overs.

If Archer can satisfactorily prove his fitness, he would be first man in line to replace the injured James Anderson for the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. No pressure, Jof, you just need to come in to the Test team and on debut instantly change the course of the series. He could start by reading up on our eight foolproof methods of stopping Steve Smith.

He followed up his 6/27 by helping himself to a hundred with the bat, obviously.
