Streak applies for ZC to be liquidated

Former coach Heath Streak has applied to the High Court seeking an order for the provisional liquidation of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), saying the board is no longer able to pay it’s debts.

Streak, who was sacked as Zimbabwe coach in March, says ZC cannot meet its financial obligations after it recently failed to settle his severance package amounting to more than $128 000.

The now 44-year-old Streak also said in his application that members of his coaching staff, who were also axed at the time, were yet to receive what is owed to them.

Former fitness coach Sean Bell, ex-batting coach Lance Klusener and former Zimbabwe A coach Wayne James were, along with Streak, all fired when the African team failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup.

Streak said in his application to the court: “This is an application in terms of Section 6 of the Insolvency Act (Chapter6:07) for an order of liquidation of the first respondent (ZC) in that the first respondent is unable to pay its debts as and when they become due in the normal course of business.

“Furthermore, it is just and equitable that the first respondent be wound up, and creditors be paid off their debts.

“Applicant is a creditor of the first respondent and is owed the sum of $128 762,95. He is also aware that’s Messrs Lance Klusener, Sean Bells and Wayne James who are all cricket coaches and whose contracts of employment have been terminated illegally by the first respondent are owed the sums of $11 757,93, $43 999,23 and $14 175,66 respectively.

“Despite demand, the first respondent has failed or neglected to pay the debts in question.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in July that they would release funds to ZC to enable the board to pay outstanding dues owed to its players and staff, including the players’ match fees.
