New Zealand fast bowler Doug Bracewell has been dropped after his preparation for the Central Districts' important fixture against the Northern Districts was "compromised" by a late night out.

Bracewell, who was disciplined for similar reasons during last year's series against South Africa, had allegedly been drinking with some Otago players on Friday.

"Our guys decided that Doug had compromised his preparation to play and that he wouldn't be playing that day," Fairfax quoted Central Districts chief executive Hugh Henderson as saying.

"We discovered that he'd got back to the team hotel in the early hours of the morning. We ask and expect guys to be respectful of the guys that they play with. In this case we think Doug made a poor decision and that's one of the first things we said.

"It doesn't matter who you are. If you are the youngest guy in the side, we shouldn't treat you any differently from a guy that's played for New Zealand."

The 23-year-old Bracewell has not played limited-overs cricket for the Black Caps since June 2013 – and was not named in the squad for this month's three ODIs and two T20Is against Sri Lanka.
