New Zealand's Chris Gaffaney will debut as a Test match umpire during the one-off fixture between Zimbabwe and South Africa, which will get underway at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
Gaffaney was a solid batsman during a first-class career that spanned a decade and ended in 2005 – and has since become respected official in ODI and Twenty20 International cricket.
"Chris has put in a lot of hard work and we're extremely pleased to see him given the chance to make the step up," Television New Zealand quoted New Zealand Cricket match officials Manager Rodger McHarg as saying.
"There's nothing more satisfying for an umpire than the opportunity to perform on the international stage. It will be a proud moment for him and one that I'm sure that he will learn a lot from."
Veteran Test umpire Billy Bowden is also from New Zealand.
