Hesson: IPL has helped us adapt to conditions
New Zealand coach Mike Hesson says the fact that they have guys who have played in the Indian Premier League has allowed the Kiwis to adapt to conditions and make a superb start to the World T20.
The Blackcaps have beaten hosts India and Australia in their first two games and have read the conditions to perfection each time showing in their team selection.
Hesson said: "We look at a lot of footage and stats, and talk to a lot of people, but then ultimately you look at the surface and make your own assessment what you expect it to be.
"Thankfully, we have a lot of players who have played IPL. So we gather all the information we can, and pick up a team that suits the condition as well as the opposition."
Fast bowling spearheads Tim Southee and Trent Boult have been left out of the starting team for both victories and while Hesson says they are disappointed not to be playing they do understand the selection the process.
Hesson continued: "We are lucky to have a good group of people who are focused on what the team needs. Although there is no doubt there is a little bit of disappointment, but players understand that we are doing this to pick the best team.
"It's not that we like players more or less than others, we just are matter of fact about it. As I said we are lucky to have good people who understand that, and they could well get an opportunity throughout the tournament.
"If they do, the others players left out have to be equally supportive."
New Zealand's next game in the global tournament is against Pakistan in Mohali on Tuesday.
