ICC set to dismantle Big Three dominance

The International Cricket Council have made a move to dismantle the Big Three stranglehold on world cricket, with their most recent board meeting on Wednesday resulting in potentially massive changes for the sport.

India, Australia, and England's boards essentially took over the ICC in 2014, and new chairman Shashank Manohar has voiced his disapproval previously, and has now pushed for their hold to be reduced.

As such, their automatic inclusion on the Executive Committee and the Financial & Commercial Affairs Committee are set to be voided, with a more equal power distribution the aim.

Manohar said: "We had very purposeful and positive meetings, and the decisions taken clearly reflect that we collectively want to improve the governance in a transparent manner, not only of the ICC but also the Member Boards.

"This, in turn, will enhance the image and quality of the sport. No Member of the ICC is bigger than the other and I am determined to make a meaningful contribution in this regard with support of all the Members."

The progress of this matter will be discussed again at the board's next meeting in April.

Meanwhile, the countries' leaders also discussed the prospect of cricket at the Olympics in future, but no resolution was found, with the ICC acknowledging that it is a complication issue.

They said: "The Board acknowledged that this was a complex issue with a diverse range of views and factors to be taken into account and that further work was required before a final position could be adopted."
