Seamer Kyle Mills will captain New Zealand during next month's limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka.
Batsman Kane Williamson was elevated to skipper in the absence of the rested Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor, but fractured a thumb during the recent series against Bangladesh.
All-rounder Rob Nicol and medium-pacer Andrew Ellis, meanwhile, have been recalled. Fast bowler Ian Butler was not considered due to a back injury – and batsman Neil Broom will be added to the touring party prior to the third and final ODI.
"It's disappointing that Ian's back didn't settle in time for the Sri Lanka tour," said chief selector Bruce Edgar. "We'll also bring in Broom for the final ODI and the two Twenty20 Internationals as additional cover."
The first ODI will get underway in Hambantota on 10 November
Squad: Kyle Mills (captain), Corey Anderson, Anton Devcich, Grant Elliott, Andrew Ellis, Tom Latham, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Adam Milne, Colin Munro, James Neesham, Rob Nicol, Luke Ronchi, Hamish Rutherford, Neil Broom (for final ODI and T20Is).
