Munro: I enjoy expressing myself in T20s
New Zealand batsman Colin Munro says he enjoys expressing himself in the shortest format after scoring his second T20I century to help the Kiwis beat India in Rajkot on Saturday.
Munro struck a brilliant unbeaten 109 off 58 balls as the visitors posted a total 196/2 before restricting the powerful Indian batting line-up to 156/7 as the three-match series now sits at one-all with one game left to play.
REPORT: Munro ton fires Black Caps level
The left-handed Munro became only the fourth player to score two T20 International hundreds, joining compatriot Brendon McCullum and West Indies pair Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis.
The ton in Rajkot was somewhat of a form shift for the Auckland batsman as he only scored one half-century in the three ODIs that preceded the T20I series.
Munro said after the game: “I enjoy Twenty20. It’s a game where you know it’s a short game and you go out there to express yourself and when it comes off, it comes off.
“Sometimes you put too much pressure on yourself in the longer form where you’ve got to score runs all the time. In Twenty20, you just got to go out there and express yourself and take the good with the bad.
“Sometimes it comes off like it did tonight and the other night it didn’t come off. You just got to go with the flow.
“I think I’ve always felt good in this format. It was just a matter of it hasn’t quite clicked. It’s one of those games where when you’re going well, you’re going really well.
“And when you’re not, you’re not. For me it’s a mindset thing. I’ve tried not to expect too much from myself playing at this level or at Twenty20. It’s just about trying to keep as even as you can and I think I’ve done that over the last two years.”
The series deciding T20I will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
