Sodhi surprised with turning decks in India

New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi says he did not expect the pitched in India to turn as they are in the ongoing World T20 but thinks the Kiwis have adapted very well.

To say the Black Caps have adapted very well is an understatement as New Zealand have beaten hosts India, Australia and Pakistan in their first three games to qualify for the semifinals with a game to spare.

Legspinner Sodhi has been one of the stars for the Black Caps and although he expected conditions in the subcontinent to suit him he is still surprised at the amount of turn on offer for the slow bowlers.

Sodhi told reporters on Friday: "To be completely honest, I did not think it would turn as much as it did.

"But it has. Most of the tournaments I have watched here have had decent batting surfaces. But for them to turn this much was unexpected. We have had to adapt and we have done that very well so far."

The 23-year-old Sodhi has bowled well in tandem with left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner who has been compared to New Zealand legend Dan Vettori.

Sodhi said of Santner: "We have played some domestic cricket together for a lot of districts but to do it here was very pleasing. He is a good friend and a great partner at the other end, I try and support him from my side.

"Santner is a fantastic bowler in his own right. A lot of them are comparing Santner to Vettori but I think they are very different bowlers."

The Kiwis play Bangladesh in their final group game in Kolkata on Saturday.
