Boult rested as Kiwis continue to rotate

Left-arm seamer Trent Boult will be rested for the final ODI and the first T20I against Pakistan with Ben Wheeler coming into the New Zealand squad.

Wheeler, who like Boult is a also left-arm seamer, has played in six ODIs and four T20Is but his last international appearance was almost a year ago.

Another seamer, Seth Rance has also been added to the squad as cover as Kiwis continue to rotate their senior players with Tim Southee being given the second of three T20Is off.

Selector Gavin Larsen said: “Ben’s ability to swing the ball makes him a threatening bowler and his batting power and athleticism in the field compliments that nicely,”

“It will be nice to see more of Ben and Seth while we manage the workloads of Tim and Trent.”

Batsman Ross Taylor will only be available for the first T20I while Tom Bruce has been retained despite only making 28 runs in three T20Is against the West Indies earlier this year.

The final ODI of the five-match series, that the Kiwis have already won, will be played in Wellington on Friday while the T20I series starts at the same venue on Monday.
