Watson and Morris cash in at IPL auction

The Indian Premier League auction took place on Saturday, and a number of surprising purchases were made, with South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris selling for double the price of Kevin Pietersen.

Morris, who was with Chennai and was thus a free agent, sold for 7 Crore, so around 1 million US dollars, which surprised observers given the selling prices of other, bigger, names, including KP.

Morris was sold to the Delhi Daredevils, Pietersen's former team, and will join up with fellow Proteas Quinton de Kock, Imran Tahir, JP Duminy and Albie Morkel.

Meanwhile, Kyle Abbott was sold to Kings XI Punjab for around 300,000 US, while star paceman Dale Steyn, a marquee name, was sold to the Gujarat Lions, a new team, along with Dwayne Smith.

Pietersen, meanwhile, was sold to new franchise the Rising Pune Supergiants for around 600,000 US, while Australia's Shane Watson fetched a massive 9.5 Crore, sold to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

At the time of writing, Watson was by far the highest sale, with last year's top man Yuvraj Singh selling for 7 Crore to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Also going to that team was veteran Ashish Nehra, for 5.5 Crore.

England fans were pleased to see that wicketkeeper Jos Buttler fetched a decent price, 3.8 Crore (around 700k US) to the Mumbai Indians. The team also added New Zealand paceman Tim Southee to their roster.
