Ashwin to bowl leg-breaks in IPL

India spinner Ravi Ashwin will bowl more leg-spin in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as he tried to improve against international batsmen.
Ashwin, who has taken 311 wickets in 57 Tests, has made his name in the game as an off-spinner but has lost his place in India’s limited-overs team as wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal continue to impress.
Now the 31-year-old Ashwin, who has bowled leg-spin as a variation in certain games, wants to improve his armoury and will continued to do work on it in the IPL.
In quotes published in an article on ESPNCricinfo, Ashwin said: “This is part of my plan going into the IPL. I am just trying to build my armoury. I used to bowl good leg-breaks with my off-spin action when I was playing league cricket in Chennai.
“Over a period of time, in a search to get my stock ball right, I obviously had to cut out a lot of those things.
“I had possessed a lot more variations. Having bowled offbreak as the stock ball for almost 10 years, trying to change things around is challenging.
“But I don’t really settle for anything. At no point in my career, I thought ‘this is it’ and decided to settle for the rest of my career.”
