Rohit praises India bowlers after series win

India batsman Rohit Sharma praised his team’s bowlers after they wrapped up a convincing four-one ODI series win against Australia in Nagpur on Sunday.

Rohit struck a rapid century – the home team’s first ton of the series – as India won the final game by seven wickets with more than seven overs to spare after being set 243 runs to win.

As has been the theme throughout the series, Australia were again given a good start by their opening pair of David Warner and Aaron Finch, who put on 66, but fell away in the middle overs as the rest of the batting line-up crumbled.

Rohit was quick to compliment the India’s bowling unit, saying they always had the mindset of taking wickets even when they went for boundaries.

Speaking after the game on Sunday, Rohit said: “We’ve played in these conditions so many times and they understand that they need to keep sticking to their strength. One boundary here and there doesn’t make a difference.

“That’s been their attitude throughout the tournament and we go out in the middle to take wickets, not to look to get the strike-rate down.

“All the bowlers who participated in this tournament have gone with this mindset of taking wickets. When you’re doing that you will obviously strike at some point during the game and pull the match back towards you.

“That is what these guys have done, all the spinners and the fast bowlers as well. All the compliments should go to them as well, the way they have bowled as a bowling unit throughout the tournament.”

India will hope to take their momentum into the three-match T20 series against Australia that starts in Ranchi on Saturday.
