Rohit Sharma to miss final Test against Australia

Rohit Sharma will miss India’s final Test against Australia in Sydney, starting on Thursday, after he flew home to be with his wife who has given to their daughter.

The batsman, who scored 63 batting at number six in the Boxing Day Test to help the tourists to an imposing total of 443/7 in their first innings, flew to Mumbai straight after the victory in Melbourne where India went 2-1 up in the four-match series.

No replacement has been called up and Rohit will rejoin the squad in Australia after the Sydney Test for the three-match ODI series against the Aussies.

Rohit’s absence could see India recall one of their openers that was dropped, Murali Vijay or KL Rahul, and move Hanuma Vihari back down to the number six position.

India just need to avoid defeat in the New Year’s Test to win their first ever Test series in Australia after 11 attempts.
