Six changes to Tigers Test squad

Bangladesh have named a much-changed squad for the first Test against the touring England team in Chittagong this coming week.

Batsman Sabbir Rahman has forced his way into the team with a run of good form in the ODI series and also had a run-in with England ODI skipper Jos Buttler which cost him 20 percent of his match fee in the third match of the series.

Sabbir has played 29 ODIs and 26 T20Is but is yet to make his Test debut and will be joined in the squad by a further three potential debutants.

Former under-19 captain Mehedi Hasan is among the new boys and could make his Test debut just a few days before his nineteenth birthday.

Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Nurul Hasan complete the list of uncapped names included in the group.

Seamer Shafiul Islam, and offspinner, Shuvagata Hom have earned recalls to the squad after solid form in domestic cricket.

Of those left out of the squad Liton Das, Mohammad Shahid and Mustafizur Rahman are injured while Nasir Hossain, Jubair Hossain, Rubel Hossain have been axed.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said: “We have taken two pace bowlers taking into account that Chittagong offers a flat pitch.

“We retained Shuvagata to tackle England’s left-handed batsmen. We also took [Mehedi Hasan] Miraz as a specialist offspinner as we believe he has much to offer since his performance at the U19 level. We have taken [Kamrul Islam] Rabbi because he has done well in first-class tournaments. He has ability to bowl fast with the old ball.”

Bangladesh’s Test squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Tamim Iqbal (vice-capt), Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan , Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam, Mehedi Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Nurul Hasan, Shafiul Islam, Shuvagata Hom.
