Injured De Kock named in World Cup squad

2015 World Cup

South Africa have included injured wicketkeeper-batsmen Quinton de Kock in their squad for the 2015 World Cup.

De Kock suffered an ankle ligament tear in the Proteas first Test against the West Indies in late December and is not expected to be fit by the start of the World Cup in mid-February.

The opener's inclusion means that AB de Villiers is set to keep wicket in South Africa's opening games until De Kock is declared fit to start

The rules of the World Cup also mean that a replacement player can be called up if De Kock does not recover in time, and Morne van Wyk is thought to be standing by as cover.

Aaron Phangiso was also included in the squad even though he is nursing a finger injury, and JP Duminy was called up after nearly two months on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Squad: AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Kyle Abbott, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Vernon Philander, Rilee Rossouw and Dale Steyn.
