Rabada back, Stuurnman earns maiden Proteas callup

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is back for the Proteas and South Western Districts paceman Glenton Stuurman will be a part of the South African cricket squad for the first time in his career after he got the call for the incoming England series.

International cricket makes its return to SA

South Africa is due to play three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals in a hastily organised tour since the lockdown in South Africa was reduced to level one.

At this level professional sport is able to continue under very strict health and safety protocols which will include the players from both teams being forced into a two-week quarantine prior to the series.

After this, the squads will need to remain in secure bio bubbles to ensure the safety of all players and officials involved in the series.

At this stage it appears unlikely that fans will be allowed into the stadiums to watch the matches live.

Rabada’s IPL dominance

But with all that aside, the Proteas selectors have picked an interesting squad to take on their bitter northern hemisphere rivals.

Rabada earned his recall to the squad after dominating in the 2020 Indian Premier League. He took the second-most wickets in the competition with 25 at an average of just 19.40. However, he was a little expensive with an economy rate of eight runs per over, but if he is taking wickets that shouldn’t matter too much.

Other than the relatively surprise inclusion of Stuurman, Junior Dala also earned his first recall to the squad since the beginning of 2019.
