The Sri Lanka selectors have dropped fast bowler Lasith Malinga from the ODI squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against Pakistan.
The now 34-year-old Malinga has had modest returns in 50-over cricket since he made a comeback to the national side, with him only taking 10 wickets in 13 ODIs at an average of more than 62.
Former captain Angelo Mathews has also been left out as he struggles with an ongoing calf injury while the surprise omission from the squad was opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, who averages 42.41 in 12 ODIs this year.
Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal has been included despite not being a regular in limited-overs cricket while Chamara Kapugedara also found a place in the 15-man squad.
Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Vishwa Fernando and Dushmantha Chameera will be the frontline seamers in the squad.
Jeffrey Vandersay and Akila Dhananjaya are the speacialist spinners while allrounders Seekkuge Prasanna and Milinda Siriwardana will add additional slow-bowling options.
The first of five ODIs is scheduled to take place in Dubai on 13 October.
