Sri Lanka leadership team admit to ICC conduct breach
Sri Lanka’s leadership team of captain Dinesh Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha have admitted to breaching an ICC code that relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.
The trio were charged by the ICC following Sri Lanka’s refusal to take the field on the third morning of the second Test against West Indies in St Lucia, causing a two-hour delay to the start of play.
If found guilty the trio could be banned for two to four Tests, or between four and eight limited-overs internationals.
The ICC have appointed Michael Beloff QC as the Judicial Commissioner to hear the case against Chandimal, Hathurusingha and Gurusinha to determine the appropriate sanction.
Chandimal has also been banned for the final Test against the West Indies, starting on Saturday, after being found guilty of ball-tampering but the Sri Lanka skipper is appealing that suspension.
If a coach and manager are found guilty, they will not be allowed to be in the dressing room while they serve out their suspensions.
Captain Chandimal is allowed to be inside the dressing room, but cannot step out into the field of play, even to carry drinks.
