Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the youngest player to take a five wicket haul in an ODI as Afghanistan bowled Zimbabwe out for 134.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first but failed to make best use of the conditions losing wickets early and often.
Brendan Taylor (30) looked like he might play a great counterattacking innings but when he fell it was left to Craig Ervine to hold things together.
Ervine ended not out on 54 as the lower order and tail collapsed around him with the young man Mujeeb bagging 5/50 at the age of just 16.
Rashid Khan (2/28) and Mohammad Nabi (2/18) provided excellent support and the game was all but over as a contest already.
Afghanistan nonetheless came out with intent with the bat in hand and the game was almost over by the end of the opening powerplay.
Mohammad Shahzad (75*) and Ihsanullah (51*) would get Afghanistan over the line without requiring any other batsmen to chip in.
The win has confirmed that Afghanistan will end the series at No. 10 in the ICC ODI rankings.
The result sees Afghanistan record another series win over Zimbabwe and will give them a huge boost ahead of the World Cup Qualifier that their opponents will host.
