Kagiso Rabada will face a level 2 charge after being reported by the umpires following a brush with Steve Smith’s shoulder on day one of the second Test in Port Elizabeth.

The incident happened when Rabada dismissed the Australia captain lbw in the second session at St George’s Park.

The 22-year-old Radada, who went on to take five wickets in the innings, will contest the charge based on the fact it was accidental physical contact.

Match referee Jeff Crowe will conduct the hearing after the third’s play with Rabada in danger of missing the rest of the series.

The fast bowler already has five demerit points on his disciplinary record and if found guilty of a brush with Smith would take him to eight and a two Test suspension.

It will be a big blow to the Proteas if Rabada is banned as they look to beat Australia in a Test series home for the first time with the final two games in Cape Town and Johannesburg still to come.
