Zimbabwe level ODI series in Sharjah after Taylor’s ton

Brendan Taylor scored his ninth ODI century as Zimbabwe thrashed Afghanistan by 154 runs in Sharjah on Sunday to draw level at one-all in the five-match series.

Taylor struck 125 off 121 balls and was well supported by Sikandar Raza, who scored 92 off just 78 deliveries, as the African side posted 333/5 in their 50 overs after they won the toss and opted to bat first.

The Zimbabwe duo added 135 for the fourth wicket to set their side up for a mammoth total while earlier opener Hamilton Masakadza hit 48 and Ryan Burl added a quick-fire 22 at the end.

Afghanistan were never in the run-chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals and their innings was ended with them 179 all out in 30.1 overs.

Zimbabwe seamer Tendai Chatara did the early damage, eventually finishing with figures of 3-24 in eight overs while leg-spinner, and skipper, Graeme Cremer made a late charge to finish with 4-41.

It says a lot for the Afghanistan batting effort when number ten Dawlat Zadran top-scored with 47 not out.

The third game in the five-match ODI series again takes place in Sharjah on Tuesday.
