Zimbabwe set to sack Cremer, Streak

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) have, reportedly, sacked Graeme Cremer as national captain and have given the coaching staff, including coach Heath Streak, an ultimatum to resign.

According to an article published on Cribuzz, the cricket board in Zimbabwe have decided to take action after they failed to qualify for the 2019 World Cup through the Qualifiers that they hosted recently.

Zimbabwe were verge of qualifying for the global event and just had to beat UAE in their last game but lost by three runs which saw West Indies and Afghanistan book their tickets to the 10-team event.

Cremer has been told that he will no longer be skipper while Streak and all his backroom staff including, batting coach Lance Klusener, bowling coach Douglas Hondo, fielding coach Walter Chawaguta, team analyst Stanley Chiwoza and strength and conditioning coach Sean Bell, have been given until Friday to resign or be fired.

Streak is the only one of the coaching staff that has work lined up, with him being due to link up with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL as bowling coach.

Not qualifying for next year’s World Cup has put ZC in a serious financial loss, with the board set to lose millions from not participating in the tournament to be staged in the UK.

All ZC staff were only paid 40% of their salaries in February.
